Island Impact was founded in December of 2003 in Sosua, Puerta Plata by Robert and Kelli Nelson
The Dominican Republic, located in the Caribbean, shares the island of Hispaniola with the country of Haiti and is home to more than 10 million people. Originally discovered and governed by Columbus himself, the island has a rich history which includes the establishment of the first Christian Church and University in the New World. Today it is known for it's beautiful beaches and is a tourist attraction for Canada, Europe and the USA.
Unfortunately, if you stray Beyond the Beach you find a country struggling to provide education and health care for it's inhabitants.

Visiting Volunteers
Island Impact relies heavily on volunteers, to conduct medical outreach services and work projects to the designated areas where the needs are greatest. Our volunteers donate many hours, to ensure we meet our program goals. These volunteers are like pieces in a puzzle. They provide skills and resources needed to give the "In Country Programs," their high impact. Volunteers come from all walks of life and professions. Some are moms, some are surgeons, salesmen, teacher, audiologists, dentists, doctors, nurses, fire fighters and pastors. But all come with the same purpose to make a difference in someone's life.
