Mobile Medical Teams
Mobile Medical Teams and Clinics were designed with the poor in mind. They reach out to areas where there is no access to medical care such as the Haitian refugee camps where the people are too poor to afford medical care. Mobile medical teams usually consist of 1-2 primary care givers (an MD, ANP, or PA), nurses, pharmacists, lab techs, and even non-medical personnel. These teams diagnosis and empirically treat illnesses they encounter in the field and refer chronic conditions to the strategically located IIM Clinics for follow up. Teams are even able to perform rapid tests in the field to assist in obtaining a diagnosis.
Surgical Teams
Through an excellent relationship with the Dominican Republic Ministry of Health, Island Impact is able to host surgical teams in the government hospitals on the North Coast. The Ministry of Health has requested "specialty teams" in order to provide services which are not already available in their public hospitals. Currently IIM, hosts an annual Eye Surgical Outreach and a bi-annual OB/GYN surgical outreach. Surgical teams are responsible for recruiting their own team members, obtaining and bringing their own equipment and supplies. IIM locates patients and
